We tried a simple marshmallow experiment (inspired by Fantastic Fun and Learning) using Kay's sugary cereal marshmallows. (You can always tell when Daddy has gone shopping!) We took out four marshmallows and put two in some cold water and the other two in some warm water. Then...we waited.
When Kay pushed the marshmallows around with her finger, she noticed that in the warm water she could see bits of pink sugar coming off and turn the water pink. The cold water turned a little pink, but not as much. After a bit we took one marshmallow out of each bowl and compared the sizes - the marshmallow in the warm bowl was about half the size of the one in the cold water!
Kay, however, was more interested in what they tasted like. So she put them to the test and the verdict was: they tasted like marshmallows.
To complete the project she also tasted the sugary water as well!
