I am always on the lookout for different ways to make learning more fun. I'm not of the belief that kids should learn only, or even primarily, by sitting at a desk and filling out worksheets.
That may work fine for some kids (it did for me!) but Kay is not one of those kids. She needs to move, to experiment, to observe to really get the facts in her head.
So when it comes to spelling words, one of the methods in my repertoire is a salt tray. Kay gets the sensory inputs she needs and the teacher likes that she working on her spelling words. (Not to mention it's really easy to put together!) Around here we call that a "win"!
