Cardboard Robot Craft

It's not every day you get to read a book that turns into a robot! A fold here, a flip there and RoboSauce by Adam Rubin becomes a super-cool robo-book!

The first time we read it Kay rushed off to make her own robot, inspired by the book.

She searched in the recycle bin (I've taught her well!!) for supplies and I was pretty impressed with the result. Even better, she was impressed with the result. She played with her robot for days, until an unfortunate decapitation episode (oops!).

Then recently we got an awesome new bookcase and the personalized nameplate came wrapped in a ton of corrugated cardboard. I couldn't just throw a treasure like that away! Turns out all that cardboard was just perfect for building a robot of a different kind!

Supplies:
  • Corrugated cardboard (any cardboard would do!)
  • Paint
  • Googly eyes (from our friends at CraftProjectIdeas.com)
  • Glue

First I cut the cardboard into various shapes. Then we painted the cardboard, sometimes on the bumpy side, sometimes on the smoother side. Finally, the funnest part - assembling our creation!

This was a fun open-ended craft - the perfect one to go with such a fun book! Check out more craft ideas to go with children's books at Read It Make It!
