Mosaics always fascinate me. Basically, no matter how you do them, they come out looking pretty awesome (and I just love projects like that!). This month we decided to make on from an old egg carton for Project: Recycle & Create.
Originally I had visions of making little egg carton bunnies, complete with pipe cleaner ears. I cut out come of the cups of the egg carton, left the room to put the laundry in the dryer and came back to find Kay had found them and decorated them with Sharpies as "eggs". Sigh.
Well, can't really get mad about creativity in action. I commended her creative idea and came up with the mosaics as a back-up.
I cut out triangles from the rest of the carton and we colored them in with those same Sharpies. (I think Kay is intrigued with them because they were so off limits to her for so long. Sorry, people who like to color on their own arms don't get to use permanent markers in our house. Fortunately she's outgrown that!)
Note: It would have been infinitely-wiser to paint or color the egg carton, then cut out the triangles. There's always next time, I suppose!
Then it was just a matter of gluing on the pieces. She smeared the glue stick all over the paper and then stuck the egg carton tiles on. No pattern, no rhyme or reason. And I think it's all the better because of it.
When we were through, I trimmed the paper just a bit and we had - a marvelous upcycled work of art!
