What do you do when you have a lovely birthday banner but the party has already come and gone? In my house that means its creating time!
We got this My Little Pony birthday banner (along with some other fun goodies) courtesty of Oriental Trading this year and it was just too cute to toss in the recycle bin.
Since we'd just had a party, and parties pretty much always mean presents, we also had ourselves a nice stack of thank you cards to write. Something in my mind clicked and we ended up turning that banner into homemade pony cards!

- Birthday banner (you could also use old greeting cards, magazine cut-outs, pretty much anything with an image that catches your eye!)
- Blank greeting cards
- Glue
- Scissors
This is one of those so-easy-you-don't-even-need-to-describe-it activities. I carefully cut the ponies from the banner (probably the hardest, or at least the most tedious, part of this whole project!). If I may brag a little, I only cut the tails off one of the ponies, thank you very much. (Hey, I thought it was part of the background...oops!)
I usually have blank cards on hand because I just like making cards, so it was just a matter of gluing those ponies onto the cards. We used that high-quality craft tool called a glue stick!
For the words, I used stencils (also from Oriental Trading, incidentally). It was a great excuse to bring out my new glitter gel pens. (Glitter and My Little Ponies...a beautiful fit!)
Kay loved them, just because they had her favorite ponies on them. Her first thank you note to her grandmother went something like this "Dear Grammie, For the $". She didn't even write out the word "money"! I giggled to myself, but we also had a little chat about how to make the note a little more meaningful. Fortunately the notes improved as we went along!
I'd love to know - do your kids write thank you notes? I know we're in the minority here, but with a mama who loves card-making it's a given at our house!
