The Perfect Playdate Activity

     For a whooping 22 minutes, I was the "cool Mom". The one who listens to Disney music and plays games with you and doesn't worry about the dishes. 

   This doesn't happen so often as I would like. More often I'm the "Mom-Mom" - do your homework, pick up your toys, go wash your hands.

​  How did I accomplish this increasingly-rare feat? Oh, Disney helped me.

  We got a chance to try out Just Dance: Disney Party 2 for our Wii. Let me just say, this game is going to be so helpful for expending energy during the long winter days that are undoubtedly in our future. Because this is one fun game!

  I say that not as someone who watched someone else have fun with it. Nope, I got in on this one myself. Could it be that this will take the place of those endless Candy Land sessions (please, please, please!)?

  With more than 20 songs from the latest Disney Channel hits, like shows "Girl Meets World” and “Liv and Maddie” and movies "The Descendants" "Teen Beach 2", Kay had a blast with this one.

  There's words on the bottom of the screen so you can get in some karaoke action. Assuming you can read of course. Fortunately (maybe...) Kay hears a song once and knows all the words. She loved "Gotta Be Me" from Teen Beach 2. By now, even I know all the words to that one! 

 You get a score at the end according to how well you moved along with the characters, but to be honest Kay couldn't have paid any less attention to that part. She didn't care if she was doing it right - she just liked moving!

  My biggest surprise came when we had a friend come over to play. Kay has developed a very competitive streak. Part of this is her age, a lot of it is her personality. Her playdates lately tend to devolve into, "I have this...I can do that...I'm the best at [fill in the blank]."

  So I had the inspiration to suggest the girls play this game one afternoon. My best hope was that they'd play for a bit, get some energy out, and give me a couple minutes to not worry about them. But they played for over an hour. An hour!

  Keeps the kids busy and happy and no mess to clean up afterwards? Yep, sounds like the perfect play date activity to me!

  Now if only they added a few N'Sync songs in there...Wait, I'm showing my age again, aren't I?!
