The first time I tried to use a book for a craft project was very hard.
No, not the actual cutting. But destroying a book. A book! Never mind that it was a beat-up old one that I got for a quarter at the library book sale. Never mind that it likely would have been recycled otherwise anyway. I was destroying a book!
Fortunately, it got easier. And I'm glad because I love how this book page Halloween banner came out!

I started out by tracing the letters on book pages with the stencils and cutting them out.

I started out by tracing the letters on book pages with the stencils and cutting them out.
To decorate the letters I used Do-A-Dot markers, acrylic paint and Sharpies, just randomly adding dots here and dabs there, not paying attention to if they fit into a pattern when put together as a phrase. (This bothered my OCD a little later. But just a little!)
I cut yellow and orange cardstock into 3 1/2 in. squares and used my mighty magical professional craft supply adhesive (um, a glue stick) to attach the letters to the cards.
After a 2-day search around the house for ribbon, I finally came across some orange (perfect!). I used a paper punch and then thread the ribbon through. Finished!
Best part - these are easy to store for next year. Just fold them up, put them in a plastic baggie and they'll be ready the next time Halloween rolls around!
