I'm not usually the one who gives the treats to the dogs in our family. That's my husband. Perhaps that's why they follow him around like he's their god, staring at him lovingly whenever he's watching TV. They have a routine where, after the dogs come back inside in the morning, he gives them a treat before heading off to work. If he forgets, they keep running to him and then running to the cabinet where the treats are kept. They may not usually be the sharpest crayon in the box, but when it comes to treats they can't be fooled!
But just as I try to keep healthy snacks on hand for Kay, I want the same for our pups. With all the recent recalls of dog food products from China, it's worrying to go shopping and wondering what's really in that treat you're buying. I don't have the time or inclination (and did I mention the time?) to make all our dog treats from scratch.
So I now make a concerted effort to buy from well-known brand names that make their goodies in the United States, where the requirements are stricter than some other countries. That's the main thing that appeals to me about Purina Beyond's dog treats. They also don't use poultry by-product (search Google if you don't know what that is...it's pretty nasty stuff!) and they're grain free, which is something our older dog needs. It's worth paying a little extra for the peace of mind of knowing I'm going them something that's not going to make them sick somewhere down the road.

I also wanted to make a cute container to keep these new treats, so I headed to the craft section (my favorite!) and got a mason jar and paint markers, because I've heard they write well on glass.
I've never used paint markers before so I was excited to play around with them. I wanted paw prints on the jar, but my free-hand version was...well, let's just say they weren't immediately recognizable as paw prints! (Good thing paint markers are also removable with rubbing alcohol!
Fortunately I had the good idea (hey, it happens occasionally!) to use a paw print stamp on a piece of paper and then tape that inside the jar. Using that as a guide was much easier!
It was still missing something though. So I found a toy dog from our small world farm and used a glue gun to add him to the top. Filled up with tasty goodies, it was done. Much nicer than our previous system of stashing the treat bags under the sink!
Do you have a pet you love to spoil with treats and lots of love? Tell me about them (I love to hear about animals!)
