2 am. A preschooler walks up screaming with an ear ache. Yet another ear infection. You've been through this routine before, you know the signs, you even know the treatment. But it's Sunday morning. And your doctor is closed on weekends.
Ever been in a similar situation? In this scenario I was actually the child, who had to wait with a painful ear infection for my parents to get an appointment for me. It's only now that I know how hard it must have been for them as well, watching their child in pain and being unable to help.
Healthcare issues never come up at a good time, do they? But maybe that's the thing - there is no good time for a medical problem to emerge.
But there's no question that whether it's a routine physical for school, a yearly flu shot, or treatment for something ailing you, you want three things: to be in and out quickly, to have it be affordable, and to get on with your life. Walgreens Healthcare Clinics can help with all of these things. Knowing what I know now, here are some times when my family could really have used one of these clinics nearby.
* My husband J works outside the home and needs to take time off for medical appointments. If there was a place he could just stop in for a quick flu shot, he could do it on his lunch hour and not use up any work time (and of course not miss any extra time away from us, his lovely family!)
* Sinus infection. Yep, I get them all the time, but there are those times that they just won't go away without antibiotics, which means a good old trip to the doctor's. Especially when my daughter was an infant or toddler, it was a hassle to get an appointment, pack her up and keep her busy while we waited in a waiting room with other sick people. Ugh. That was a time I would have loved to have been in and out of there.

* Ever had a splinter? Of course. And in most cases they come out on their own or are easy enough to pull out, but when your child has a splinter, it never goes so easily. I remember that feeling having a splinter:
Oh. My. Gosh! It's going to be there forever! I'll never be able to use my finger again!
Okay, so I was a bit of a drama queen, but the fact remains that sometimes a splinter needs a more expert hand to guide it out.
* Getting a shot is traumatic for a child (I have a 19-year-old sister who is still pretty hysterical when it comes to needles!) but what if there was aisles right outside of the room where they could pick out a special snack or toy when it was all over. Yeah, probably still not going to convince your 4-year old to take the injection with a smile, but may just make it slightly easier. (And yes, I'm talking about bribing the child, or, as I prefer, "rewarding bravery". Sometimes you do what you have to do!)
I think people would do well to be more open to various options in health care. If I can get quality, convenient care for my family, without having to take out a second mortgage to get it, I'm all there!
