If there's snow on the ground, Kay wants to play outside. It doesn't matter if it's only a dusting, if it's 4 degrees out, if it's a blizzard - she wants to be out there, making snow angels, throwing snowballs, and climbing snow mountains. Only this happened to be one of those it's-too-cold-no-way-am-I-going-outside days for me. So, in the hopes of tiding her over and avoiding a pouty preschooler, I put some snow in a Rubbermaid-type container and brought it in the house.
When I asked if she wanted to play with snow in the house I thought she'd be more excited. All I got was a half-hearted "OK." But when I brought it in, her interest was piqued. "Is that *real* snow? I thought you meant cotton balls or something!" I grabbed a few toys - construction trucks, her bath toy bowls and a rubber duck (he wanted to play too!) - and set those down for her to play with too. She promptly got her mittens on and dug in.
Our dogs were very curious, especially Toby who loves to roll in the snow.
I showed her how we could make "snow castles" with the bowls, but she was content scooping it up (and getting it all over herself. I figured that was fine - at least I was warm!)

Eventually, the snow started clumping together until it was too hard to even play with. (I'm sure there's a fancy scientific name for that, but the fact that she noticed a difference was enough for me.) So we tossed it outside. I was toasty warm, Kay got to play in the snow, and all was well in our home. Well, for a few minutes anyway. But I'll take what I can get!
