Disclosure: I received this set of Xoom Cubes free. All opinions are my own.
I was excited to get the package of Xoom Cubes in the mail, because it was an unexpectedly rainy day and we were starting to get a little stir crazy. (Couch cushion jumping, anyone?) So I made a big show of opening the package and saying this was a new game with no rules and we could play anyway she wanted. "Not like Candy Land, when I want to make up my own rules but I can't?" You mean, when you want to change the rules in the middle of the game when you're not winning, Sweetie? No, not like that. :)

She got straight to work, dumping the whole set out on the floor. While my eye wandered over the letters and started forming words in spite of myself (crossword addicts unite!) she was content to sort them by colors. Then the stacking started. She loves making towers - with anything - and these were perfect. Also great for fine motor skill practice too. So she'd build and they'd fall and she'd rebuild. She told me she was building a skyscraper...and then a city. Occasionally she'd come across a letter worthy of her notice, but mostly she ignored the letters.

Then we played a quick game where we took one of the letter dice, rolled it, and had to think of a word that began with that letter. I was pretty impressed with how many words she came up with, especially since I didn't even think she knew most letter sounds!

Finally she got her new-to-her truck and was scooping up the cubes with that. I was fascinated by all she came up with to do with these blocks (and very pleased that they kept her busy so long!)
I received a free set of these, but in my unprofessional, unsolicited opinion, I think these would be worth buying just for the kids to play with, word game aside. 1" color cubes, with no letters, are of a comparable price to these same-sized color cubes with letters, with you could use for any number of letter recognition or sight word games. (End of unwanted advice!)
