Can you believe we're talking Christmas ornaments already? Whether you're someone who has holiday cards written up and ready to go by November, or you're more of a last-minute kind of person, making homemade ornaments can be a wonderful way to work on fine motor skills and make memories at the same time. (Okay, that sounded a little sappy, but go with me here!)
We love makinghomemade ornaments - and I love seeing them on the tree each year. This one is super easy and you probably have all the supplies in your house already (bonus!).
Supplies:
- Pipe cleaners
- Pony beads (we got these clear ones from our friends atCraftProjectIdeas.com)
You can start out by making the shape of a star with the pipe cleaner. We wanted ours just a little bigger than one pipe cleaner could offer, so I cut a piece from a second and then just twisted the pieces together. You can also simply add the beads and then make the star shape at the end!
Next, add beads! I was glad I made the star shape first, because it made it a little more tricky for Kay. She had to work to get the beads over the curves, so she really had to concentrate (something she could certainly use practice with!).
When all the beads were on, we twisted the ends of the pipe cleaners together to close up the star and added a pipe cleaner loop to hang it to the tree with. I'm thinking those pony beads are going to look fantastic with the tree's lights!
