When I saw these awesome colors from DecoArt's Patio Paint series, I wanted to make something...like keychains!

For those of you wondering why I would need an outdoor paint for something that would only occasionally be outside, well, strictly speaking, you don't. But if I ever do forget these outside somewhere, I am so set!

Supplies:
(I used DecoArt Patio Paint )
  • Braiding cord (ours came from CraftProjectIdeas.com, available at Walmart from Horizon Group)
  • Split rings
(You can find them in the "findings" section at the craft store, or just click here !)

I started off by painting the beads. I used DecoArt's Glorious Gold, Blue Bahama, and Raspberry Red. I didn't actually pick the colors intentionally to go so well together, but they did!

I had a bit of a trick of doing this - the skewers we use for fruit kabobs were the perfect size for keeping the bead in place right at the end of the stick. This made it so easy to paint (much easier than the one I did without the skewer!)

When my Bahama Blue color was dry, a used the same skewers to add little dots in gold.

After everything was dry (and they dried quickly in this case!) it was time to assemble the keychain. I thread the string through the split ring (see photo) and started adding the beads on.

When I'd added 4 or 5 beads, I double-tied the cord and trimmed off the excess.

I just love the color combination! Apparently Kay does, too, because she keeps taking the keychains from my craft desk  to play with!
