Recycled Wrapping Paper Card

A year is like an eternity in the blogging world. It seems weird that it's been a whole year since we hosted the year-long Recycle & Create series, encourage reusing materials and frugal creativity. Now, Teach Me Mommy has picked up the slack and it's looking to be even bigger and better than before!

To kick it off we took the challenge of putting gift wrap to new use.

Supplies:
  • Wrapping paper scraps
  • Blank card
  • Paint pen (optional)

I always hate throwing away those bits of wrapping paper that are too small to wrap with but surely will have some future use. However I've been trying to avoid saving things for those "maybe someday" creations (the cause of probably half of my clutter issue!) so I'd avoided holding on to those little pieces. Until now.

As soon as I saw this paper that Santa brought I knew it had definite craft potential. (Good pick, Santa!) Fortunately, the big guy left us some extra, just in case we needed to wrap something (he is so thoughtful!).  I cut out the tree shapes (read: triangles) to make a simple card with. (Any design paper in these tree shapes would be perfect for this!)

After the trees were glued on, it still needed a little something. Enter: gold paint pen. (I just love this thing!) A few dots here and there and...yes, that's what was missing!

It may be too late in the season to use this card this year, but now I already have a headstart on next year's holiday cards. (Maybe I'll even get them out on time next year...!)
