One group of skills that is so important for so many areas of success, both in school and in general life, are fine motor skills. Everything from writing to tying shoes, turning a page to zipping a zipper require the use of the small muscles in the fingers.
This is one crafty activity that's fun to do - and sneaks in a little fine motor practice too!

I put out some paper, paint, scissors and Q-tips and suggested we make hearts. I say "suggested" because if I tell Kay to do anything, it's almost certain she'll do the opposite. I cut out a heart; she decided to trace one and use that.
Q-tips are awesome for fine motor practice - it takes a lot of fine muscle skill to control those little cotton swabs! I used them to dip in the paint and then make colorful dots on the heart.

This is one of those super-quick and easy ones - great to pull out when you just need something to keep little hands occupied. In this case, "occupied" means "in paint", but you get the idea!
