Don't you just love fall? The colors, the crisp air, the raking...okay, I don't love everything about it!
This colorful wreath was made with...wait for it...packaging paper. Yep, this baby is upcycled!
Supplies: (for wreath base)
(for wreath decorating)
- Packing paper (a paper bag will work, too!)
- Tape
- Scissors
(for wreath decorating)
- Craft foam
- Cardstock
- Sharpie
- Glue gun
I got the upcycled wreath idea from Crafty Journal. Mine is a little different in that she used a paper bag, but I opted for the packaging paper that gets stuffed in some boxes to keep the products safe. And this time of year, we're getting lots of boxes in the mail!
But the basic idea is the same. Lay out the paper flat, and start rolling the bottom end up to the top. Then pick it up and twist it.
Then you just make it into a circle and tape it together.
Doesn't look so pretty yet, doesn't it?
For the leaves, I used craft foam in yellow, orange, red and green, tracing the shapes we used for our Thankful Tree. Then I just randomly glued them on the wreath with a glue gun. When I was done, it was still missing...something.
I finally thought to use cardstock and stencils to trace out "Give Thanks" with brown Sharpie. I added dabs of hot glue to the ends and stuck it on. I love the sign - it really completes it!
This poor wreath wouldn't last a day in our New England weather, but for indoors it's a lovely addition. We have it hanging in our kitchen, right next to our windows freshly decorated with hand print turkeys drawn on with chalk markers!
