Easy Reindeer Ornament

Well, this is one craft that turned out completely different than I expected! (But in a good way!)

I got out the materials thinking we would make some ornaments with our first initial on them. Somehow we ended up with...reindeer! I love when the unexpected turns out so adorable!
Supplies:
  • Wooden ornaments (we got ours from Oriental Trading years ago - yep, I'm a saver!)
  • Googly eyes [ours came from our friends at CraftProjectIdeas.com]
  • Brown pipe cleaners (cut down to size) [also from CraftProjectIdeas.com!]
  • Red pom pom

At first I got out paint markers, stencils, and these pre-painted wooden ornaments. We did make a few with letters on them. Kay made one with an "M" when I left the room. When I came back and saw it, I said, "Oh, how sweet!", thinking it was for me. Wrong. "Yep, I made it for my friend Mari!" How. Very. Sweet.

But then she wanted to bring out the googly eyes, which led to the pom pom nose, and - "Hey, now he looks like a reindeer! What can we use for antlers?"

It's nice to have a craft "fail" that still turns out to be something we can use!

Christmas is all about crafts for me! (And traditions and family and all that other fun stuff, too, of course!) I love making homemade ornaments with Kay every year. Some only last a few weeks, some are still going strong years later, but it's the process of making them together that stays with me (and hopefully with her, too).

Emma Owl is hosting a 12 Days of Christmas filled with homemade ornament ideas. Check it out, but be warned - you may just be inspired to get crafting!
