This was one of those spur-of-the-moment, let's-give-it-a-try activities.
I first saw spinning top marker art on Pink Stripey Socks and kept it in the back of my mind. So when I found a CD we didn't use (and weren't ever going to use), I knew just what we were going to do with it!
Supplies:
I spread out our big paper on the floor and Kay and I experimented a bit. Based on the original post, I thought we'd need to use something to keep the CD in place. I used an elastic band, but it turned out we didn't need it. The thick Crayola markers we used were just the right size for fitting into the center of the CD, but not sliding all the way down.

- Paper (the bigger, the better!)

Then we got to spinning.
Admittedly, this does not make the best top if you're looking for it to spin round and round like the store-bought ones. We were excited to get a couple of spins. But when you've made it yourself a couple of spins feels AWESOME!
What surprised me was that even though this didn't work as well as a top could be expected to work, Kay was totally into it, not even getting frustrated but just enjoying the process.
And the resulting work of art was pretty amazing, too!
It's all about the process! Process art has no set end in mind; the goal is simply to explore the materials and see what happens! This month's process art challenge, hosted by Stir the Wonder, was all about markers.
