Kid-Made Glue Ornaments

Each year, our Christmas tree is a hodgepodge of ornaments, each one with a memory attached. One of my favorite traditions we've started with Kay is making our own ornaments each year.
Break out the glue to make these fun ornaments!

This is actually one we did a couple of years ago. It seemed like the perfect craft for her - you get to use glitter and LOTS of glue!
Supplies:
  • Christmas-shaped cookie cutters
  • Glue
  • Glitter (optional)
  • Beads (optional) (we got ours from our friends at CraftProjectIdeas.com)

One of the best parts about this one is that, at 4, she could do it nearly entirely on her own (which was fortunately because sometimes I had to look away so I wouldn't overreact to the glitter situation!)

First, set out parchment or wax paper to work on. I also added a baking pan under ours to try to contain the messiness and make it easier to move around. Then set the preschooler free with the glue! (Frightening thought...) I had to bite my tongue a few times to avoid saying, "That's enough glue" because actually, for this project, there's no such thing. Of course, the more glue you use, the longer it's going to take to dry!

Then it's time to add the embellishments. We used glitter (indoors - eek!) and colorful beads. Don't forget to add a bead with no glue covering it to but your thread through.

As you'd expect, these took forever to dry! It was nearly a week before they were completely ready. But when they were, I was pretty impressed with them. We even kept them hanging in the window all winter.
