This year, I'm skipping over Christmas and going straight to Valentine's Day.

Okay, so not really. But I did get a Valentine's Day card idea when I opened these cool molds and I had to make a few to try out (of course!). Hey, if they can play Christmas songs in September than I can make Valentine's in November!
Supplies:
* Guitar molds {aff. link}; small guitar erasers would work great, too
  • Old crayons
  • Free printable
  • Pipe cleaners

Our first job was making the guitar crayons. (There's two words I never thought I'd use together...) I explained to Kay that we had to take off the paper and then break the crayons. She said, "But you always say 'Don't take the paper off' and 'Don't break the crayons'!" She has a thing for crayon-breaking. This was her favorite part.

We put the pieces in the molds and put it in the oven at 220 for about 10 minutes. Twenty minutes later - when I finally remembered I was making something - we took them out and let them cool.

The first time turned out to be a fail. We didn't put enough crayon pieces in, so the guitars weren't thick enough. When we went to take them out, they broke. Every. Single. One.

Good thing the process of making them is so easy. Kay got to break the crayons again (woo-hoo! What is this - Christmas?!) and we gave it another shot. This time...score!

I played around on the computer and made some "You Rock Valentine!" cards. (I just love puns!) I wasn't sure how I was going to attach the crayon to the card. Tried tape...nope. Slits on the top and bottom...broke. Then, a brainwave...pipe cleaners! I punched a hole in each card and used pipe cleaners to hold the crayon in place. Awesome. They were still a bit floppy, though. For the real thing in February I might add another pipe cleaner to the bottom of the guitar, too, just to make sure they make it to the recipient in one piece!
