  Before our pen pal sent us a plastic Easter egg with a Ring Pop inside, I had no idea how many cool things you could send in the mail, even without packaging. An inflated beach ball? A pail? A FRISBEE?!

Awesome things you didn't know you could send in the mail!

  Here are some of the best that I've found. Wouldn't these be a treat to find in your mailbox next to the bills?

  • Crystal Light container filled with goodies! {Small Stuff Counts}
  • This cute owl made from a cardboard tube will deliver your letter or small gift (anyone else reminded of Harry Potter?) Unfortunately I can't find the original creator of this idea. If it's you, let me know so I can give you the props you deserve!
  • Bubble wrap hopscotch game - we'd have to make one of these for us, too, while we were at it! {Glued to my Crafts}
  • Plastic bottle of school or craft supplies or other "stuff" {Cranial Hiccups}

  • Box of candy - Sure, it's not healthy. But what a treat to find this in the mailbox with your name on it! (Plus, the weight of the box is right on it, so it's easy to get just the right postage. Remember, if it's under 13 ounces you can put it right in the mailbox!) {Sometimes Creative}
  • Those little M&M bottles can be mailed, too!
  • Plastic Easter egg - not just for Easter! {Happy Home Fairy}
  • Message in a bottle - Skip the envelope and send a message in a bottle instead! {B-Inspired Mama at Playdough to Plato}

  • An inflated beach ball - I imagine it must be tempting for the mail carrier not to play with this one! {Interim Memoirist}
  • A simple cardboard tube package will stand out in the mail! {Giver's Log}
  • Draw a picture on a puzzle - your pen pal has to put the puzzle together to get your message! {Camp Slop}

Pen pal blog hop mail ideas

   I used to love having pen pals and I'm sharing that now with Kay. It's a great way to encourage writing (not her favorite thing!) and to make new friends (one of her favorite things!).

  Would your child like a pen pal? I started a Facebook group for parents to find snail mail friends for their children - no names or addresses shared in the group, please! Come join us at the Pen Pal Connection! (Pre-writers welcome, too!)
