We Love Weekends - Highlights of the Week

Sometimes a post really grabs at you, and stays with you long after you've closed the web page. Last week Lady Blogger shared one of those posts. It's no secret that things have changed a lot in schools in the the time since I attended. I can't pretend it's not necessary in many cases, but sometimes it's just overkill. Preschoolers who aren't allowed to hug one another because it could be misconstrued as something sinister? In my daughter's school, parents are not allowed to set foot inside the building, not to bring the child to the classroom if they're late, not to bring in a special treat for a birthday (those aren't allowed either, even non-edible ones). I can see the reasoning - I wouldn't want random people wandering in and out of the school building, but still, somethings seem to be taken too far.

And that's where Lady Blogger's post comes in. She wrote about 5 things she did as a teacher that would never be allowed in a classroom today. It's a shame, because it sounds like she was one of those wonderful teachers we all hope our children are lucky enough to find. It's a new world, for better or worse.
Now that I've got you all down with that deep topic (!) let's lighten the mood a little with some fun ones, shall we?
Syncopated Mama made an adorable gift with a photo of her sweet little girl juxtaposed with a footprint reindeer. I'll admit - I wouldn't want to give this one away; I'd want to keep it for myself!

Learning is more fun with cars and trucks, if my daughter is an example, and Growing Book by Book has 19 literacy ideas using toy vehicles for some awesome playful learning!

Finally, with all the "best deals of the season" and "must have toys", it can be hard to remember that what your children really want is...you. That's it. Just time with you. (Though they will insist they want that Frozen doll or remote control dinosaur too!) Brain Power Boy offers a beautiful reminder that we can all use this time of year (and all those other times of the year too!)
