Instant Boredom Buster - Writing on Windows

I love chalk markers. There - I said it. And I don't just mean for kids. I've been making note cards lately and these things rock for that, too!
Quick boredom buster with no set up - writing on the window!
But I was delightfully surprised at how well they held Kay's attention and inspired her creativity. And in the past few days, when she's had nothing else to do, she's asked for the chalk markers. She loved that they wrote on windows (she's never been allowed to do that before!) and mirrors ("This is just like a chalkboard!" she exclaimed as she erased it off with a paper towel). I had to draw the line when she wanted to doodle on the TV screen, though it probably would have wiped off there, too. While Kay goes through the house looking for new surfaces she can write on (practicing writing and fine motor skills - but she doesn't know that!), I came up with some uses for these chalk markers too:

  • Chalkboard. Okay, the most obvious, but it's where the white shows up the best. And it's so much less messy than using chalk. (Chalk dust - ugh!)

  • Mirror. Write a message on a mirror for someone to find - it will make them smile!
  • Dry erase board. Wipes off just as easily as a dry erase marker (only with better colors, at least better than the ones we have!)
  • Refrigerator. Only the smooth fridge doors though; the ones with textures I can't vouch for.

  • Windows. The neighbors may wonder what the heck you are doing, but Kay had a blast (and I got in on it too!)
Chalk pen markers Kraft paper crafts card-making
  • Paper. The colors come out most vibrant on white paper; less so but still cool on Kraft paper (my personal favorite!)
