So what are small worlds? Sounds pretty fancy, right?
It's simply an activity set up to encourage imaginative play. Some trucks and some pebbles could be considered a construction small world. Seem simple? That's the idea.

Of course, you can get as basic or elaborate as you want. I've always loved Crayon Box Chronicles' small world posts - they have such detail and look so inviting that I want to jump in and play too!
If you're looking to jump into small worlds, start off with what your child is interested in and go from there. Here are some great ones to get you inspired!

Beach - can't make it to a real beach? Make your own mini-beach with sand dough (just 4 household ingredients)! {Crayon Box Chronicles}
Farm - with a barn craft. This one inspired my own small world farm, which, by the way, came out nowhere near as awesome! {Crayon Box Chronicles}
Winter Forest - My favorite are the upcycled houses! {My Nearest and Dearest}
Antarctic Iceberg - I love the penguin slides! {Crayon Box Chronicles}
Arctic Circle - with snow dough and recyclables. Almost makes you chilly just to look at the photos. (Keep that in mind when it's the middle of summer!) {Crayon Box Chronicles}
Underground Animals - I may not like real-life creepy crawlies, but this small world offers lots of learning opportunities through pretend play. (Fantastic Fun and Learning)
Dinosaur - check out how she made the cave and tunnels! {Crayon Box Chronicles}
Desert - with moldable sand recipe, made from baby oil, flour and sand. {Crayon Box Chronicles}
Train tracks - Recycling and trains...need I say more? {The Imagination Tree}
Construction - Our very own small world play, complete with construction paper roads!
