Sensory play is just what is sounds like - play that involves any of the 5 senses. And since that's how young children learn best, sensory bins and activities have gotten attention in recent years.
Kay has always embraced tactile sensory play, and on her own I noticed she usually ends up exploring different materials with her feet.
As with anything, not all kids will be into this. Let your child explore the materials you offer in whatever way they wish. Okay, spiel over. On to the fun stuff!

Here are some materials Kay has enjoyed getting her feet into. (Really, there are endless options of surfaces and textures that would be interesting to explore this way!)
- walk in the grass or sand or on cement with no shoes or socks (summer days are great for this!)
-play dough (especially homemade play dough that's still warm)
-contact paper (I hung contact paper on the wall and had supplies nearby for a pretty collage activity. Um, no. Kay said, "Look, I can make my foot stick to the wall!" and so she did, repeatedly. There was no collage that day.)

* Feet painting (absolutely Kay's favorite. I fully expect when she goes to kindergarten and the teacher says "Painting time" she'll proceed to remove her shoes and socks!)
* shaving cream
* water (simple enough!)

Do your kids like to explore sans shoes and socks? What other things could be used? I'd love to hear your ideas!
