Another year of school...over! For kids, it's all excitement, even if it's bittersweet for you ("My baby is going into X grade! And what are we going to do all summer?!"). My mother always took me out for lunch on the last day of school and it's a memory I treasure.
Need some ideas to help you celebrate? (Hint: No need to be elaborate. The tradition is spending time with you; the bonus is what you do!) (Hint #2: Don't think these are just for kids who attend school! Homeschoolers could get in on the "Welcome to Summer" theme too!)

- Go out for a special meal, or cook your child's favorite! (Secrets of a super mommy has some fun ideas for celebration dinners!)
- Take a trip to the ice cream parlor.
- Movie date, miniature golf, bowling (anywhere special and just the two of you will be remembered. If you have more than one child, take them each out separately if you can.)
- Decorate the car for last day fun! Happy Home Fairy celebrated summer this way (below) and I've also seen things like" 1st Grader on Board" written on the windows.
- Give them a special "Summer Basket" with small toys, books, maybe a sketchpad and some art supplies, or whatever else would make your child smile. (This will also help them pass those long summer days...at least for a little while!) (Crafty Mischief made some cute ones!)
- Homemade t-shirt (easy to do with a printer and iron or some fabric paint!). The one above is from Lanie J. and Co. but Everything is Pink and Tip Junkie have some cute suggestions too.
- A "walk of fame" celebrating their accomplishments this year
- Have a surprise message waiting for them on the driveway or a banner they can run through when they get home.
- Go swimming (weather-permitting, of course!).
