I've had my eye on this post about how to make colorful soap foam from Simple Fun For Kids for a while, but I was unsure if a blender would work in place of a hand-mixer. (We gave ours away...shucks!) So we tried it. We got out our must-be-an-antique blender and mixed in 1/4 of water and 2 tbsp. of dish soap. Not having any food coloring, we also added homemade liquid watercolors. We pushed the high setting and waited...but not too long. Apparently not long enough. It was foamy, for sure, but not moldable. Kay didn't care. She wanted to play with it NOW.
So we dumped it into a bin and she immediately started talking about putting her feet in it. A quick change into a bathing suit and change of location into the bathtub was called for. With her squared away, I went to have a second try. This time I left it in longer and used the liquid watercolor in place of extra water. I left it in longer this time too. Still not moldable, but better. I brought my creation into the bathtub where Kay was already covered in the stuff and helped pour this one out too.
In the end, it didn't matter if it was able to be molded into towers or if the color was too light - she had a blast. We'll be doing this again, so I'll have time to perfect my soap foam yet. (The only down side...I thought the bubbles would never wash out of the blender. At least it's VERY clean now!)
Note: I later learned my mistake was using the blender - a food processor or electric hand mixer will result in the moldable foam. Good thing Kay didn't mind at all!
