I set up a dinosaur sensory bin in our backyard. With dollar-store plastic dinosaurs, dirt from the backyard, some sticks, and a toilet paper roll (as a cave, of course) I was able to make it in the most inexpensive way, which I liked.
Kay played with it for a couple of minutes, and then wanted a stream for her dinosaurs to drink from. So we got the hose and added some water. Of course, that made mud. Which made the sensory bin about ten times more fun.
I was glad to see her get her hands in the squishy mud, because about a week ago she had told me, "Mom, I don't like mud anymore." And all I could think was, "Who are you and what have you done with my baby?!" So I was happy to see she wasn't "all growed up" (no matter what she thinks) and was still about to get dirty and have fun with it.
She scooped, she stirred. She had fun. (By the way, if you noticed in the pictures the sudden clothing change: When I saw where this sensory play was headed, I hurried her inside to put on a bathing suit. I love to see her engage in messy play, but not in decent clothes, thank you very much.)
