Summer, to us, means water play every day, flip flops as a wardrobe staple, and all the frozen treats you can eat without a major attack of brain freeze!
So the perfect way to celebrate the mid-way point of summer? With an ice pop party, of course!
(Kay did ask, "I still don't have to go back to school for awhile though, right?" Guess she's not bored with the season just yet!)

First things first - shopping for the goods. Outshine Bars galore!
We headed to Walmart and Kay picked out her favorite flavors.
(I had the final say so we didn't end up spending $200 worth of freezer aisles products!) We opted for Outshine's new Simply Yogurt Bars, Fruit Bars, Fruit and Veggie Bars & Coconut Water Bars. We made quite a sight walking out of the aisle with our arms filled with goodies!
I made invitations that looked like cool treats on the computer, with free clip art from A Little Peace of Africa. Didn't they come out cute? With a craft stick glued to the back for authenticity, they almost look good enough to lick! (Strictly speaking, invitations weren't necessary for a family-only party. But they did add a little extra element of fun!)
I also used plastic lids to create a "YUM" banner. I traced the lids onto heavy yellow paper and cut out the shapes. Then I used stencils to glitter craft foam to spell out "Y-U-M". A glue gun adhered it all together and it was ready to go. (Sad truth: before I actually managed to add the string, someone spilled water on the whole thing and it was ruined. File under: Fun while it lasted!)
Finally, the yummy treats themselves. In all honesty, the display was unimportant. I think we all would have been just as happy to eat them no matter how they were thrown on the table. But where would be the fun in that?!
My sister (the creative one of the family!) helped me pick out heart-shaped glass bowls. We cut out Styrofoam pads to fit on the bottom and covered them with decorative stones. When it was time, we stuck the pops into the Styrofoam bases for a "grab and go" kind of look. It was a hit!
They day we planned for the party was rather perfect - hot, humid, the kind of day where frozen treats for dinner is almost a necessity. And these are actually made out of real fruit and simple ingredients - I didn't even feel bad when Kay went for pop number two! Hey, summer only happens once a year, right?
Outsmart your Snack Sometimes healthy snacks can be found in the most unexpected places (like, oh, I don't know...the freezer aisle, for instance...)
Take this fun quiz (only 3 questions!) and find out your snacking style. (I'm a Fruit and Veggie Fan - go figure!) You'll even be making a donation while you're there - for every person who takes the quiz, Outshine will donate another pound of food to Feeding America. Oh, and you'll get a $1 coupon for your time. Go for it! (Ends July 31, 2015)
