Nothing screams "beginning reader" like a rousing game of bingo (or is that just me...?!)
A quick online search will find you some great bingo card templates for sight words (clearly, I'm not the only one who thought of this!). But I made our own because (1) I wanted to be able to personalize it to the words Kay is working on now and (2) my printer still isn't working.
Fortunately, they are easy enough to make. A ruler, some paper and a handful of index cards is all it took. I included words that she knows really well and ones she's having trouble with (like "bed" - the b and d confusion gets her every time!)
We used these adorable stickers from our friends at CraftProjectIdeas.com as place markers and got started. We would take an index card, read the word and see if we could find it on the card. She liked reading the index cards, which was fine by me - extra reading practice!
But my favorite part about this game? She's asked to play it again and again!
