Buttons Sensory Bin

After seeing a colorful buttons sensory bin on 3 Dinosaurs, I knew just the buttons that would make a great sensory bin for Kay. I had gotten them months ago and they had sat mostly unused until now. In a variety of colors and shapes, I thought they'd make a pretty fun bin to play with.
Colorful sensory bin - so easy!
Knowing the buttons alone wouldn't be too much fun, but wanting to keep it simple all the same, I added a few craft foam circles and an ice cube tray. Plus a cardboard tube (which I always seem to have nearby, no matter where I am in the house!).

I left it out for Kay to find, because she seems to like things better when she "discovers" them this way. She's not usually one to play by herself, or to come up with things on her own, but she did line them up without prompting. I quietly added the red colors to the red craft foam circle; she watched, and did the same with the blue.

I set up some patterns for her to finish. (This girl rocks at patterns, if I may say so!) Pink, pink, orange, purple, pink, pink, orange...what comes next? Or shapes...square, oval, triangle, square, oval... And she made patterns for me...though those seemed to have no rhyme or reason to them! (Correction: she rocks at solving patterns. Making them? Not so much!)

But her favorite - and the thing she went back to again and again throughout the day - was sliding them down through the cardboard tube.
  See? Simple is best!
