We finally tried our first sensory bin...and I'm so glad we did! It was a hit! I went the shaving cream route. Nothing extravagant - in fact, it couldn't have been any less extravagant. Just shaving cream in a Rubbermaid tub. I figured, at least for the first time, that alone would entertain Kay. Sure enough, she loved it.
At first she said, "I just want to see what it feels like." But soon she was squishing it between her fingers, and rubbing it on her arms. She just kept giggling and I couldn't help but smile while I watched her. Then I said, "I wonder what it feels like between your toes?!" She said, "Can we do it? Can we do it?" So we did it, moving into the bathtub for that part. And that was her absolute favorite. She loved holding on to my hands and trying to "run" in the slippery cream, sliding all over the small Rubbermaid tub. I only had one can of shaving cream, but this is something we will definitely be doing again. Time to stock up on shaving cream. (Dollar store, here I come!)
My one regret: that I didn't do something like this sooner.
