The best science workbook in the world isn't worth anything if a child won't open it.
I think that's what most impressed me about the "All About Me" workbook. Kay was drawn to it, asking to do "just one more page". (And for the record, she's not a workbook type of kid!) But that's just it - this isn't like a regular old book where you sit and fill in pages. The ideas are fun and playful and they explain science topics in age-appropriate ways; perfect for the 4-6 year olds the book is aimed at. Best of all (for me) is that the suggested activities use things you likely already have around the house.
But I could sit here and list all the things I loved about it or I could show you. While I'd love to share the whole book with you (there's just so many ideas to try!) I thought one would give you a good idea.
Decorating a liquid soap dispenser is a creative introduction to learning about germs and how important it is to wash hands. (Hopefully it will even encourage them to wash their hands without an argument, but no promises!) We used some foam stickers we got from our friends at CraftProjectIdeas and Kay decorated her own. Now when she's in the bathroom washing her hands, I hear her singing the letters of her name while she scrubs!

Next up: Kay is determined to save every milk carton that crosses her path so that we can make the skeleton that helps serve as an illustration of bones and even digestion.
