Fun ways to make car play even better! #playmatters
Playing with her toy cars and trucks is one of Kay's favorite things. She doesn't even need any extras - just the vehicles themselves. But even she likes to mix things up every once in a while, and add new things to the car play. Some of these might seem obvious, some your child may have already come up with, but all are kid-approved and sure to please for little car-fan!

  • Tunnels can be made out of pieces of cardboard or plain computer paper taped to the floor.

  • Bridges are a bit trickier, because they have to be sturdy enough for the cars to cross over. If you're a DIY kind of person, Pink Stripey Socks made a great tunnel/bridge combination out of cardboard.
Cardboard bridge for pretend play kids activity
  • Garage from a cardboard box. This can be as simple as cutting a couple of holes in the side of a shoe box (I like to leave the flaps for "doors"!) or a more elaborate one like Celebrate Everyday with Me made.

Ramp car play truck pretend science
  • Anything with an incline can be used as a ramp. We have a piece of plywood and also what used to be a shelf that Kay likes to prop against the couch and race her cars down. (She's also learning as she experiments with how much to incline it before it falls or before the cars just smash into the floor!) Even just a flat piece of cardboard or poster board is a perfect surface for racing. What Do We Do All Day? used a cookie pan.
Shaving cream play activity car
  • Kay liked to add her construction trucks to any sensory bin I put out. We've used rice, sand, beans, dirt, even pom poms. Paging Fun Mums made a car wash with a shaving cream and cars activity - messy, but lots of fun (and very easy to clean!)

Preschooler car play with blocks trucks
  • Adding blocks to car play can turn into bridges, raceways or roads. Kay likes to make streets, but your child may just surprise you with their creativity!
