We could go through a lot of paint in our house.
I know, because we have. A year or two ago, Kay started her love of painting - oh, not with brushes. Nothing so orthodox as that. She liked to paint her arms and legs and belly; squish it through her fingers and toes. Couldn't have cared less what, if anything, got on the paper. So I let her go for it. And, like I said, the paint supplies diminished quickly.

Since then I've become wiser (or just cheaper!) and have been looking for alternative methods for her to get her messy on, but in a more budget-friendly way.
And so...lotion body paint!
And so...lotion body paint!
While you could use lotion from the dollar store for this (keeping with the frugal thing), we happened to have an old bottle of hand lotion lying around and decided to finally put it to use. I squirted globs of it into an ice cube tray, and then added a 3-4 drops of food coloring to each glob.
We mixed it up and I set her loose on it.
Verdict - total hit! She got to paint herself, squish her little toes through it, the whole shebang - and it was easy to rinse off. Not to mention she had soft, healthy skin from the ample quantities of lotion she kept going back for!
