Games to encourage creativity in children
Games play a very important role in boosting any child’s creativity. Indeed, studies show that engaging in creative games is more beneficial to young children than traditional academic skills. In line with this, it has been proved that such creative games help in developing not only a child’s creativity but also their intelligence, psychological stability, independence and social skills. At the same time, most parents prefer that their children develop the desire to learn through positive curiosity. For this to be achieved, such children should possess the necessary social skills and confidence that will facilitate interaction with teachers and fellow students.

The fun games that enhance a child’s creativity do not rely on sophisticated gadgets or expensive equipment. Instead, the games are based on simple ideas, a factor that makes it easy for any child to take part in such games.

Favorite Board Games

Almost every child has a favorite board game. Parents can use these board games to boost their child’s creativity. However, instead of playing the games in the traditional way, parents can ask their child to come up with their own set of rules. While coming up with the rules, the child should ensure that the same are organized and consistent. This will train the child to come up with new ways of doing things, a factor that is bound to boost their creativity. The child can also be encouraged to create a number of fun games. They can use different objects to create games that involve all members of the family.

Investigative Games

Children are known to be naturally curious. In this regard, parents and guardians can take advantage of such curiosity to boost the creativity of their children. For instance, a child can pretend that they are an investigator. In fact, the game would be more effective if played by a group of children. Through this game, several academic concepts can be taught. Children can be sent outdoors to collect certain plant species or rocks. Afterwards, they can gather information about the objects and document such information in investigation journals. By acting as investigators, biologists or geologists, parents will be impressed by the creative strategies that children employ in an effort to carry out their work. The children can also dress in costumes that are representative of the profession’s outfits.

Playing Dress-up

Fancy dressing is a great way to inspire the creativity of a child through play. In this regard, there are a number of approaches that parents can use to inspire such creativity. For instance, one can have a collection of costumes. Outfits of favorite cartoon characters, superheroes, princesses and knights will be a good place to start. When dressing up, kids can turn towels and sheets into various costumes. This will require them to put their creativity skills into practice at an early age.

Also, any child could be encouraged to act out a story they have just read or watched. Such activities will help in developing a child’s memory and creativity, as they add new twists to the story. This will also be fun and entertaining.

Teddy Bear Tea Party

Organizing activities such as these can develop the creativity and independence of a child. Parents can encourage their children to organize such activities and invite their friends and neighbors. These parties can be organized in the garden, a factor that will give the child more room to exercise their creativity. During such tea parties, children can come with their teddy bears and dolls, making for a good opportunity to engage in creative play. While organizing these parties, a child will use their creativity to make it successful. They can also be involved in coming up with menus and the various activities to take place during the tea party.

Building and Playing in a Den

Every child loves to play in secret hide-outs. In this regard, they can be encouraged to build their own in an attempt to boost their creativity. A child can try to create the setting of a castle, an Indian tepee or an igloo using locally available materials. Parents can also support their child in coming up with the most suitable theme for the den.

Alex is a proud aunt of a 5-year-old girl and she enjoys playing all sorts of games with her. She is passionate about Japanese culture and loves attending cosplay events and blogging about it. Hopefully, one day she’ll attend such an event with her niece.
