Kay loves playing "scientist" with the [affiliate link] science kit she got for her birthday.
It comes with experiment ideas on cards, with the materials from the kit you need listed in pictures. So we decided to try the oil and water one.
I handed her the card and she got the "ingredients" while I got the oil ready in the kitchen. (Ready? I mean, I took it off the fridge. Very complex.)
We started with water (she measured out 1 cup) and added 4 drops of blue food coloring. Then she poured that mixture into the test tube about half way. . Next came the oil, about 8 squirts from the eye dropper. The oil made little bubbles that were pretty to see.

She put on the cover, shook the tube and then we watched to see what would happen.
The oil quickly separated from the water and stayed on the top. Oil and water won't mix!
Afterwards: The oil was a devil to wash off. I don't think the eye dropper will ever be oil free again! But hey, all in the name of science, right?

Welcome to the Saturday Science Blog Hop and linky! Each week the co-hosts bring you fun science ideas for kids and opens the linky for other bloggers to share. For readers, it's a science gold mine! Let's get started, shall we?
