Easy beginning sewing project for preschoolers
Kay caught a glimpse of my mother sewing a button on a shirt and was intrigued. (So was I - my mother never sews!) So the next day I scrounged up my last 2 pieces of craft foam and made a simple beginner sewing project for her.

When we get larger craft foam, I'd like her to make herself a little purse, but since we only had the small sheets, I turned it into a change purse. I cut out a simple shape, and used a hole punch to poke holes along 3 sides. This was probably the most difficult part - keeping the holes lined up. (You'll see they're not really!) But for a beginner project it was good enough. (That's my motto - "good enough!")

Using colored shoelaces, I tied a knot at one end, and then showed her how to go in one hole and come out the other. She caught on quickly - it's not difficult - and soon came to the other end. (She did have to be reminded not to skip any holes and we took it out a few times to start again.)

Then I tied a knot around the other end, and she was free to play with her Mardi Gras coins and her new self-made change purse!
