Storytelling with Stickers 

 Preschoolers are great storytellers, for better or worse. They can tell you all about that blue unicorn they saw at the park and say it with conviction or they can tell how their imaginary friend spilled the milk on the dog. But how to use this skill for good?

  With their great imaginations, some preschoolers seem to sprout out stories naturally, while others need a little more encouragement. But either way, it's a great way to work on story sequencing and vocabulary. (And always interesting to listen to!)

  We like to use stickers to tell stories. Kay prefers listening to the silly stories I make up, but we take turns. It's a fun challenge for me, too, to put sometimes very dissimilar stickers together with some kind of cohesion. (Kay doesn't worry about the cohesion so much!)

  We recently got a Scribble Down Activity Transfer Pack from Plasmart to review and it turned into a great way to tell stories. The images are fanciful and humorous, just right for Kay. 

  The setting was a fairy cupcake factory, where fairies were putting the finishing touches on cupcakes. You put down the sheet, scribble on the picture you want, and lift it to reveal the image in the place you wanted. (Great for fine motor skills too. She really had to work at scribbling on just the picture she wanted!)

  Then it was time for the stories. Mr. Pickles, the man in charge, slipped on cupcake batter and dropped all the sprinkles. A bossy fairy learned to be not so bossy. And the man with the coffee came out of the cupcake machine. (Guess who came up with the last one!)

  The stories got sillier as we grasped for more storylines. It was a fun and laid back way to spend some time together and really listen to her. She has one crazy imagination. (But so do I, so it works!)
