With a bag full of cotton balls at our disposable, Kay and I sat down ready to create. What? Well, we didn't know exactly. But it's winter in New England and my mind immediately zeroed in on snow ideas. So with some extra small cotton balls and bottles of glitter glue, and visions of other bloggers' activities blended together dancing in my head, we got to work.
Using Sugar Aunts' post as a jumping point, I started by drawing her a simple snowflake shape with the glitter glue. She then added cotton balls and pom poms to the lines until...snowflake! We also unrolled the cotton balls and made a snowflake that way.
And what's snow without a snowman? We used some ripped apart cotton balls for the snow on the ground and built a little snowman - with pom pom snowflakes falling from the sky.
The next day we made paper plate snowmen! An idea as old as time, paper plates just lend themselves well to snowman-building. We even had 2 sizes of plates for head and body. Kay cut the bumpy edge around the plate off herself, adorned her snowgirl herself and declared it done when it had the necessary amount of jewels by herself.
What struck me about these projects had nothing to do with the crafts themselves. My little girl is growing up. She worked quietly and with concentration on adding the cotton balls to the snowflake shape. She worked independently to create her paper plate snowman. There was no "I want to put glitter glue on my arms" or covering her hands in glue just so she can peel it off when it dries. Lest you think she has suddenly matured entirely, there was an attempt at a cotton ball-throwing fight and her snowman included boobies and a belly button. But still...my little baby isn't so little or so babyish anymore.
