Sand art is one of those messier crafts that my mother always loathed. (That and anything involving glitter.) But that's what vacuum cleaners were made for, right? So I determined we would do sand art this year - in the house, brave soul that I am.
We got the winter sand colors from Oriental Trading (blue, green, white, red, and lilac). They came in little resealable baggies that Kay opened herself, and then cut a hole in the second baggies to pour out the sand. (Bonus: Opening the little zip bags and cutting were helping with fine motor skills!)
I also picked out, separately, large snowmen bottles to put the sand in. I made a makeshift funnel with construction paper (not so pretty, but it worked!)
and Kay started dumping in the sand. I was pretty impressed at her carefully snipping open the bags and trying to carefully pour the sand in the funnel. A mess was made all the same but I was proud of her attempt.
By the time Mr. Snowman was filled with sand, there were only a few baggies of sand left - and 11 more snowmen in the box. This was a bad call on my part. But where there is the internet, there are ideas and another day we will use colored salt to fill up some more snowmen.
This handsome fella was wrapped up and given as a "just because" gift to a very special daddy.
Disclosure: We received the sand and snowman from Oriental Trading as part of their blogger program. All opinions and experiences are my own.
