As if we don't have enough snow in New England, we decided to make our own. Only this snow wasn't cold (positive #1) and didn't have to be shoveled (positive #2).
We got our "Instant Snow" at the dollar store (in clearance, no less!) so I was pretty pleased with myself. We also had cute little penguins that were actually finger puppets but looked adorable playing in the fake snow.

I added in a cut length-ways toilet paper roll (as a home for the penguins, of course) and we had a happy little penguin habitat. The toilet paper roll also turned into a penguin slide and a sled. Kay made snow piles for them to play on and hide under.
Then Kay found a tube that had had wrapping paper on it originally (we save everything!) and again those penguins were sliding down a tube. By now I imagine they were very dizzy little penguins.
I stupidly thought - what more could these penguins need? Ice bergs! And went to get a chunk of Styrofoam. That was the only messy part. Preschooler trying to cut Styrofoam - not my wisest idea.

The "dire" warnings on the side of fake snow container had me worried, so when "snow time" was over we turned it into "water time". I told her were needed to make sure the penguins were nice and clean after playing in the snow by letting them play in the soapy water. At the same time, she was getting clean too. (So sneaky, I know!)
