Welcome to the 1st edition of Project: Recycle and Create! I've teamed up with some great bloggers to use a different recyclable material each month and give it new life beyond the recycling bin. I hope you'll find some new ideas and share your own too!
Puppets are a wonderful way to tell a story and a puppet theater can really bring out the dramatics (it does in our house!). Let me tell you right off the bat, this puppet theater is substandard in my daughter's eyes. It has no curtain, you see. So instead I put a towel over the opening that she can pull open and shut and all is good in the world again!
We actually made this out of the cardboard box for easel paper (never mind that we don't have an easel this huge. My dad finds all kind of "unique" things for us and this was one of them!) But this could just as easily be made with a large cardboard box with some alterations (cut off one side of the box completely, and a bit off the sides).
I just cut a hole about 3/4 of the way up for the puppets and the open sides help the whole thing stay up. On the front we wrote "Kay's Puppet Theater" and also made it resemble a TV, with knobs and an on/off switch. When she's feeling silly (is she ever not?!) I'll pretend to change the channel and she has to quickly think of a new "show" to do. (She loves doing the same when I'm behind the theater!)

Sure, you could decorate it, paint it, maybe add some colorful stickers, but this one satisfies Kay (except for that horrible lack of a curtain situation!).
Okay, your turn! What do your kids like to turn a cardboard box into?
How can you join us? (Ooh, I was hoping you'd ask!)
Step 1: Make something using the material of the month and anything else you need to make it work. Anything made for, by, or with children is welcome!
Step 2: Share! Come on back to this blog or any of the co-hosts or the P is for Preschooler Facebook page and show us a photo of what you came up with. There will also be a linky each month if you have a post to share.
That's it. Easy, right? (That was the idea!)
There is also a Project: Recycle and Create Pinterest board, so be sure you're following to keep up on all the great ideas!
