With a little builder at my house, this was one of my favorite lists to put together. A few of these toys are going to be under tree on Christmas morning! Building toys are great for open-ended play. They help with problem-solving, fine motor skills and they're a lot of fun. Here's some ideas of building toys if you're shopping for a preschooler this year:

A gears building set allows children to create moving structures. You turn one and they all move. This is a favorite toy at the playgroup we go to!
Gears! Gears! Gears! Beginner's Building Set
Bristle blocks are nice because they're easy to stick together and for the fact that they do stick together. Kids who get frustrated with regular blocks that keep falling apart might find more success with this kind.

Marbulous - A marble run your child can build themselves. See-through so you can watch the marbles as they make their way through the run.

PowerClix are translucent shapes that stick together with magnets! This particular set comes with 18 pieces.

Good old-fashioned wooden blocks. Kay is getting these for Christmas. Shhh! Don't tell!

Connectagons are a unique building set that attaches through slits in the sides. Plus, this one glows in the dark!

I like this set of colorful stacking pegs because it comes with boards to extend levels!

This Tinkertoy set comes with pieces for building animals...or whatever else you can come up with! Fun way to build beyond ordinary towers or houses.

Build your own drinking straw with this kit! Comes with straws and connectors so you can build the best silly straw ever!

BathBlocks are building toys...for the bathtub! They have various designs (this one is obviously a castle!). Kay had a blast with these!
